Hot Rolled Cereal from the Microwave
I like to make hot rolled
cereals in the microwave, and this is my favorite combination
1/2 C rolled whole-grain cereal (I
like 4 grain with oats, wheat, barley, rye, and sesame, but rolled oats
or barley alone work equally well)
1/2 C water
1 T date pieces or chopped dates, or other dried fruit of your choice
2 T toasted walnuts, or other nut of your choice, optional
milk, optional
In a microwave rice cooker (a neat vented contraption that
prevents boil-over messes, and can be found inexpensively in
supermarkets or asian groceries), place the cereal, water, and dried
fruit. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. Let stand 5
minutes, then turn out into a bowl, add the nuts if desired, and milk.
